Lucky Us
Yesterday I was joined by my friend, godfather, and official family photographer, Pedro on our walk.
Today he was kind enough to send some of the photos he had with us. Always a pleasure to get these.
He’s one of the great photographers in town.
If you want, you can check his work at pedropina.net. He also has an Instagram account: ppinaphoto.
The Leftovers
Our selfie by the subway station.
This looks awful, it’s as ugly as it gets in the area. The buildings here are beautiful, but somehow this particular corner is just too ugly.
The power poser.
Waiting for a bus.
The lonely scooter.
A lot more of these in town, kids working for food delivery platforms have taken over the city.
Also waiting.
Bus or tram, we’ll never know.
The Afternoon
After a little rest we headed out again, this time movieStar at home, the two of us walking the streets again.
Pedro joined us for this one, time to catch up, shoot the breeze as they say, and try to take advantage of the wonderful light we’ve been getting around here.
Down to Praça da Misericórdia, via São Pedro de Alcântara, and into the Bairro Alto, before heading back home to the Príncipe Real area.
We even stopped and waited for photos, something we don’t regularly do. The temperature was just perfect, not too many people out, but enough for the photos. Perfect.
We had a great time, and tinyMovie star seems to be enjoying these more each day. I have the feeling she now recognises some of the spots, and actually seems proud when she does.
S02E01
Morning Walk with dark grey skies. No raign. Long, no photos, it was a mild one.
After lunch we watched a live on Instagram, episode two of a series movieStar is producing for her company. Sustainable travel, post-pandemic tourism, the island….
If anyone wants to take a look, you can find them here. Mind you, it’s Instagram, so some might give this one a pass.
Anyway, shortly after that it was time for the afternoon session, and we were greeted by the kind of light people usually associate with the city. It was glorious!
The number of people on the street seems to be steadily growing, but still far from crowded. A lot of construction workers on their way to the main square, looking for a bus or the subway for their commute home. There’s a LOT of construction and renovation going on.
On our final stretch, almost home, we went around the block once more, it was too good outside.
To the Dentist, and Back
Dentist days are equivalent to party days. Whenever we have an appointment, we’re giddy with anticipation. It means getting in the car (tinyMovieStar still not a huge fan of that) and driving to the other side of the river, over the glorious Vasco da Gama bridge, the river so wide at that point it looks like the sea.
We drive for close to an hour, slowly, enjoying the view, enjoying the feeling of being in a car, moving, windows open, the wind getting inside and travelling with us.
The destination is not the nicest looking, there’s nothing there besides our cousin, the dentist. We don’t care.
Some people say the destination is not the point, the path is. I agree with it sometimes, others I don’t.
But this saying is spot on on Dentist Day.
No photos of the trip, sorry, we we’re really enjoying it. Just these two. My last selfie before turning the half century mark, and another one, already back in town.
