Open Up!
Some of the lockdown restrictions were lifted today, and shops are now open for business. Not yet as before, but closer.
I took advantage of the fact during our morning walk, with a purchase for movieStar, but I wasn’t done! Our afternoon stroll took us, by chance (wink wink), to the area where Cerveteca (our watering hole) is located. I missed the place, and it was nice to go in, even if only for a little while. It’s been a while since I’ve had a beer.
When we were slowly making our way back home movieStar was done with work for the day, and joined us for a little while.
No more closed doors from now on?
Spicy Walk
Breakfast taken care of, time to walk to the market.
Down the street until you get to the Parliament, through the old Madragoa neighborhood, walk by the French embassy, with all the modern brunch cafes, and we arrived.
The market is located in a yard in front of a church close to the embassy, and has around 20 small stalls selling all kinds of things: bread, Italian cheese, fruits vegetables, Brazilian cheese bread, flowers, pastry and savory snacks. And the spice guys!
Temperature is measured at the entrance, and lemongrass scented gel (also sold inside) is provided to sanitize your hands. Very nice.
The patrons are a mix of expats (there’s an incredible number of French people living in the city) and local hipsters.
We met a couple of friends and their daughter, three months older than tinyMovieStar. Her mother is movieStar’s oldest friend, back from when they were toddlers. Now they both had children at the same time.
And the spicy sauces! We got them! Haven’t tried them yet, but I’m betting on them being amazing!
It was time to leave, run home, go get my brother, get the baby into the new (front facing) car chair, and drive to my parents for lunch.
Already tired, and it’s not even lunch time.
Close to Perfect Walk (and Day!)
We were about to have breakfast when the phone rang. Delivery incoming.
We have some very dear friends in a town up north, as north as the country goes. It’s called Chaves, and our friends have a music festival going on over there. Or had, before covid, and will, after this whole mess is done. Anyway, they are the best.
The food there is also amazing, and there are some things you can find elsewhere, but are not as good as the local ones. So they sent a box with treats yesterday, and was delivered just in time for breakfast today.
We almost cried, we were so happy.
And off we went for our morning walk.
One of the perks of living in a town this cosy, and on the center of it for so long, is that we’re always meeting friends on our walks. Today was no different.
When we made our stop at the French bakery, to get the usual baguette that keeps tinyMovieStar entertained for a while, and mom & dad happy when we eat it later, we met Tiago. He was making his way home from the butcher, we tagged along for a little while. Happy!
We’re also meeting him tomorrow, for what I expect will be a cool morning (will report for sure).
Soon enough we were on our own again, up and down the familiar streets, and our legs took us to the movie place where the nice gentleman said we could have the posters for movieStar. He saw us going by and said we could pick them up next week! Happy!
The weather is great today, warm, sunny, we went through our second garden of the day. The little one loves yanking leaves from the trees, and it’s so much easier to do when they’re dry.
Sorry, trees.
Still on the barbershop visit from yesterday (and I really should get some decent photos next time!)

While, on the outside,…
Belarmino (Instagram link) is just great, Miguel is an awesome barber.
