Going through the Bairro Alto you can’t help notice that almost all the buildings have a different shade of paint on the ground floor, newer, and the other floors have kept the older version of the same color.

We were finding this stranger by the minute, and asked a restaurant owner why they had decided on such a crazy paint job.

Turns out the ground floors are constantly tagged by street artists, the city council dispatches a team to clean them from time to time, and then the owners of the buildings hire someone, or take it upon themselves, to repaint the whole thing.

But not the whole building, just the part they’re in charge of.

The whole neighborhood looks like a crazy patchwork.
